    作家情報
    昭和天皇の皇后。久邇宮(くにのみや)邦彦王(くによしおう)の第一女子。母は鹿児島・島津家の出身。名は良子(ながこ)。1918年（大正7）学習院女学部中等科3年のとき、皇太子裕仁(ひろひと)の妃に内定。その後、元老山県有朋(やまがたありとも)が内定取りやめを求めた宮中某重大事件が起こる。しかし1922年9月婚約、1924年1月26日結婚。1926年12月裕仁の践祚(せんそ)により皇后となる。その誕生日3月6日は地久節(ちきゅうせつ)として1945年（昭和20）第二次世界大戦終戦まで祭日であった。明仁(あきひと)（1933年生まれ。現、天皇）、正仁(まさひと)（1935年生まれ。常陸宮(ひたちのみや)家を創立）の2男、成子(しげこ)（1925年生まれ。東久邇宮盛厚(ひがしくにのみやもりひろ)と結婚。1961年死去）、祐子(さちこ)（1927年生まれ、翌年死去）、和子(かずこ)（1929年生まれ。鷹司平通(たかつかさとしみち)と結婚。1989年死去）、厚子(あつこ)（1931年生まれ。池田隆政と結婚）、貴子(たかこ)（1939年生まれ。島津久永(ひさなが)と結婚）の5女をもうけた。「桃苑」の雅号をもち、書道、歌道などのほか、前田青邨(せいそん)に学んだ日本画を趣味とする。1963年、還暦記念として皇居内に音楽堂（桃華楽堂）が建設された。1989年（平成1）1月、皇太后となる。平成12年6月16日死去。同年7月香淳皇后と追号された。
