    下田先生は、詩情あふれる幻想性と氏独自のダブルイメージの手法によって常に斬新な時代の感性を表現し、日本画の可能性を追求してこられました。本作品も、背景の月と樹林、そして鹿の親子を重ねり合わせ、幻想的な画面構成となっている。 銀色の靄の中、金色に包まれるように描かれた親子の鹿の表情が、穏やかで温かさを感じさせる作品です。
