    高井貞二（たかいていじ）1911年〜1986年　大阪出身　和歌山県重要画家　

    19歳でニ科展に入選。天才現るのような扱いを受ける。東郷青児、中川紀元などの「新造型工房」に参加。1938年、ニ科の前衛的なメンバーと「九室会」を結成する。
    その後、従軍画家として、満州、上海などに行く。1939年、ニ科特待賞。1941年、会友。
    1943年、文展で、岡田賞。大東亜戦争美術展で、陸軍大臣賞を受賞する。1945年、戦争画を描いたメンバーがニ科を出て行動会を結成する。1948年、週刊誌の表紙を沢山描く。1951年、行動会を退会。1954何、ハワイへ。翌年、ハワイで個展。ニューヨークでの生活苦と闘う。1956年、ニューヨークではじめての個展。この時代はアクションペインティング。ギャラリーと契約。

    1958年、猪熊弦一郎、岡田謙三、などとグループ展。
    1959年、絵本を出版して好評を博す。1960年、バージニア展覧会の審査員となる。その後、個展や、美術館に買い上げされる。1962年くらいから絵の中に形が生まれ始める。翌年、宮本三郎などに、二紀会に誘われて委員となる。東京国立近代美術館に買い上げられる。1967年、高島屋にて、「高井貞二展」1970年、サウスキャロライナ州立女子大学で客員教授。

    1979年、和歌山県立美術館で、展覧会。1986年、東京で死亡。2011年、和歌山県立美術館で、生誕100周年の展覧会が開催された。
