    屋久杉は屋久島独特の気候と地形、地質（花崗岩質）のため成長が遅く目が詰まって樹脂成分が多く腐りにくい特徴を持っています。銘木としての屋久杉は千年以上の屋久杉を言い、二千年以上の屋久杉には神が宿っていると言われています。屋久杉の伐採は複雑な形状の根元の部分を避けて地面から２ｍぐらいのところから伐採され、この残された切り株の部分を土埋木といいます。屋久杉の伐採が禁止されている現在、屋久杉の土埋木はほとんど取りつくされとても希少性の高い銘木になっています。その屋久杉土埋木を使ってペンダントを作ってみました。
