港や運河など小樽らしさ溢れる風景を鮮やかに描き、道展、一水会展で長く活躍した風景画家。中村善策と交友があり、善策の信条である“現場主義”と写実の精神受け継ぐ。90年代からは、たびたびヨーロッパに赴き、その地の風景にも力を注いだ。
