【アイテム説明】

1860年代後半から1870年代半ば頃までに、
フランスで作られたダブルリーフファンです。

ナポレオン三世とウージェニー皇后の統治頃は、
ロココ・リヴァイヴァルの時代とも言われ、
大きなクリノリンドレスに合わせて扇子も大きく、豪華で、
リーフに描かれる絵も、
18世紀のブルボン王朝を偲ぶロココ絵が好まれました。

骨は分厚くて重い、マザーオブパール(白蝶貝の母貝)で、
大変細かく透かし彫りがされているにも関わらず、
折れや、修理跡のない、とても素晴らしいコンディションです。

リーフは両面とも紙で、両面とも全て手描きです。

1800年代半ばは既に、フランスにおける扇子の大量生産が
始まっていた為、表は手描きでも、
裏はプリントを使用する事が多かったのですが、

この扇子は両面とも手描きで、
金彩もプリントを使用せずに、手で仕上げてあります。

マザーオブパールの金彩は、
叩いて薄く伸ばした「金箔/ゴールドフォイル」を貼ったもので、
最も高価な技法です。

彫刻されたマザーオブパールに金箔を貼ったあと、
丁寧に艶出しをされ、ぴったりと貝に張り付いて（押されて）いるので、
貝に施された彫刻の線が、金箔越しに見えています。

絵は若い貴族男女の寛ぐ風景でロマンティックシーンと呼ばれています。
