    【句仏上人 （大谷 光演）1875〜1943】
    明治〜昭和期の僧侶,俳人 真宗大谷派(東本願寺)第23世法主;伯爵。

    出生地京都府京都市
    別名法号=彰如,俳名=大谷 句仏(オオタニ クブツ),雅号=春坡,蕪孫,愚峰

    経歴真宗大谷派第22世法主光瑩(現如)の二男。10歳で得度。明治33年まで東京で南条文雄、村上専精、井上円了らについて修学。同年5月仏骨奉迎正使として暹羅(タイ)訪問。34年6月真宗大谷派副管長、41年11月第23世法主を継ぎ、管長となった。44年宗祖650回遠忌を修したが、朝鮮で鉱山事業に失敗、昭和2年管長を退いた。大正12年伯爵。書画、俳句をよくし、明治31年「ホトトギス」により高浜虚子、河東碧梧桐に選評を乞うた。大正3年以降は雑誌「懸葵」を主宰。句集「夢の跡」「我は我」「句仏句集」などがある。書は杉山三郎に師事、絵画は幸野棋嶺、竹内栖鳳に学んだ。画集「余事画冊」がある。
