    1912－2005　昭和時代前期の華族。
    明治45年7月17日生まれ。細川護立(もりたつ)の長男。細川護煕(もりひろ)の父。旧熊本藩主細川家17代。昭和15年近衛文麿(ふみまろ)首相の秘書官となるが,16年病気のため退任。敗戦直前には高松宮や重臣たちの和平計画の連絡役をつとめる。戦後に公刊された「細川日記」は昭和史の貴重な記録となった。25年細川家所蔵の美術品・古文書を管理・公開するため「永青文庫」を設立し,理事長。41年日本いけばな協会会長。52年日本工芸会会長。神社本庁統理,日本ゴルフ協会会長などもつとめた。侯爵。平成17年10月3日死去。93歳。東京出身。京都帝大卒。
