黒柿を材として使える様にするには多くの労力と時間、経験と技術を用います。原木を幸運にも調達できたとしても、そこから人間の手で材として育てていかなければなりません。原木を一年間水に浸しアク抜きをした後、厚板に製材し、さらに半年間水中乾燥させます。製材した厚板は、乾燥させること数年、その間、材の様子を伺いながら材を積み直したり、生えてくるカビを取り除きます。その後材の厚板の反り、ねじれをとりながら歩留まりのよい厚さに引きなおします。そしてそのまま半年から一年間空気になじませます。こうして黒柿は人間の手によって材として育てられ黒柿の真価を現すことになるのです。その黒柿を使ってペンダントを製作しました。
