略歴

・ウジェーヌ・ドラクロワ　１７９８年～１８６３年
　ドラクロワはロマン主義を代表する画家です。しばしば歴史や文学から題材をとった作品を描いています。
　１８３５年イギリスに旅行し、コンスタブルらイギリス伝統の風景画と共に、文学作品からも刺激を受けます。
　自由はドラクロアに代表されるロマン主義の思想的基盤でした。
　この後新政府のモロッコ親善使節に随行して多くの風景、風俗を描き、色彩も一層豊かになります。
　「まだ私には４００年先までの仕事が残っている」というのがドラクロアの口癖でした。
