    イギリスのフォトグラファー。

    モダンジャズ好きでチェット・ベーカーに憧れを持つ。

    また、ジャズレコードのアルバムを集めていたことからカバー撮影を担当していたウィリアム・クラクストンに影響を受け、写真に目覚めていく。

    イギリス空軍勤務時にシンガポールに赴任していた頃から写真家への道を夢見ていた。

    1958年に帰国すると、写真家のジョン・フレンチの元でアシスタントとして仕事を始めた。

    1960年、若い感性をもったデイビッド・ベイリーは雑誌「VOGUE」に所属する事になった。

    デイビッド・ベイリー独特のアングルで撮影された写真は、60年代のイギリスのファッションシーンの先頭にあった。

    その時代を象徴する「スウィンギング・ロンドン」の中心的人物であった。この頃からファッション写真がビジネスとして成り立ち、有名人を撮影するというカメラマンがスターとしてもてはやされる時代となっていった。

    世界各国の美術館やギャラリーで個展を開催していた。1964年に写真集を創刊してから継続的に写真集を世に送り出してきた。

    1968年から1971年においてはドキュメンタリーの監督業もおこなっていた。1995年には映画「The Lady is a Tramp」を制作し、監督も行うなどした。
    ローリングストーンズやビートルズなど、その時代を象徴する有名人を撮影し自身も活躍していた写真界の巨匠である。
