    叔父の国王ウィリアム4世が逝去し、王位継承者として1837年に18歳という若さで英国女王に即位したヴィクトリア、その後彼女の在位期間は63年7か月にも及びました。

    こちらは1897年 イギリス  ヴィクトリア  ヤングヘッド  ダイアモンドジュビリー  即位60周年記念ブロンズ大型銅メダルです。
    ロイヤルミントから発行されたメダルで、政府高官や富裕層といった限られた人々にしか配給されなかった特別発行のメダルになります。

    日本からは、有栖川宮 威仁親王、前首相の伊藤博文が出席した。因みに時の首相は大隈重信でした。

    非常にリアルなヴィクトリア肖像に、ハイレリーフに近い立体的な造りであるのが特徴です。
    ヤングヘッド ヴィクトリアの肖像は、伝説の彫刻家  天才ウィリアム・ワイオン作、ベールヘッド ヴィクトリアの肖像は、トーマス・ブロック作になります。

    特にヤングヘッドのデザインは、1844～1847年の超人気クラウン銀貨をより繊細・リアルにした仕上がりになっております。

    ヴィクトリア（英語: Victoria、1819年5月24日 - 1901年1月22日）は、イギリス・ハノーヴァー朝第6代女王（在位：1837年6月20日 - 1901年1月22日）。

    有栖川宮 威仁親王（ありすがわのみや たけひとしんのう、1862年2月11日〈文久2年1月13日〉- 1913年〈大正2年〉7月10日）は、日本の皇族、海軍軍人。号は欽堂。
