    【一点物】パシュトゥンの手織り絨毯 - 98cm x 53cmの説明


    ■中央アジアの絨毯
    手織りの絨毯はインド、パキスタン、イラン、コーカサス地方など、中央アジアの生活に欠かせないアイテムです。こちらはパキスタンの北部に住む、パシュトゥンたちが伝統的に作っている絨毯です。

    色調は赤を基調としていますが、赤にはこだわらず、割とポップな多色使いも見られます。生活の中で作られ、使われている絨毯なので、工業製品ではないが故の多少の歪みや、織りの粗さもございますが、それこそがまさにトライバルラグの証とも言える部分でもあります。

    絨毯の表面となるパイルにはウールが使われ、経糸にはウールとヤギの毛が使われます。

    ■時間の積み重ねで作られる布の宝石■
    中東から南アジアでは昔ながらの手織りの手法で絨毯が織られています。絨毯に目を凝らしてよく見ると、絨毯って、一本一本の毛が縦に織り込まれていますよね？

    2.5cmの長さあたりにウールだと8ノットから15ノット。シルクだと15ノットから30ノット。1ノットが一回編むことを意味しますので、2.5cm作るだけで8回から30回織ることになります。15ノットのものを織るとして、2.5cm四方だと15x15=225ノット。たったの2.5平方センチ織るのに225回も織らなければいけない、大変気の遠くなる、布の宝石とも言えるのが手織り絨毯なのです。
