    ■神気の宿る筆使い
    恐るべき筆致で描かれたカシミールペイントが充溢する、素晴らしい芸術作品がインドの極北から山と海を越えて日本に届きました。 見るものを圧倒する無限の細部に思わず溜息が漏れるほどの逸品。細部に書き込まれたディティールの素晴らしさは一生ものと言っても差し支えないまさに第一級のクオリティです。

    ■インドの人間国宝の手による一点もの
    こちらの素晴らしい作品は、パドマ・シュリー勲章を授与されたファヤズ・アフマッド・ジャン(Fayaz Ahmad Jan)氏の手によるもの。パドマ・シュリー勲章はインドにおいて民間人を顕彰するものとしては最高峰の一つです。氏の作品はインド最大の都市ムンバイの玄関口「チャトラパティ・シヴァージー国際空港」にも飾られていることでも知られています。


    ■カシミールとペーパーマッシュ製品
    紙を小さく小さくちぎり糊で合わせた型に、職人による美しい装飾を施したカシミール地方伝統のペーパーマッシュ製品。

    ペーパーマッシュの歴史は、15世紀ごろまで遡ります。その頃サマルカンドで投獄されていたカシミール王子が、カシミールへ戻った際に作られるようになったそうです。

    ■歴史に培われた絵画技法
    カシミールは当時、品質の良い製紙技術を誇っていました。製紙産業が発展する中で、製本する際の表紙を描く為と、 ペルシャ書道が盛んになっていた背景があり、ペンと共にペンケースの需要が高まりました。

    それに伴い、美しい絵画が描かれた、ペーパーマッシュのペンケースが、カシミールで作られるようになります。 ムガル帝国時代には、象かごや、部屋の壁面、天井などの装飾にも幅広く普及しました。

    ■第一級の品質
    そんな伝統息づくカシミールでも特に優れた職人が手描きしているのがこちらの作品です。

    デザインのモチーフには、花や更紗模様、アラベスクなどが取り入れられ、ペルシャの影響を強く受けています。 鳥や魚なども描かれますが、基本的に人間は描かれません。カシミールの雄大な山々、美しい湖。 周りを取り巻く豊かな自然の中で育まれた芸術品です。

    内寸・備考約27cm x 約19.5cm x 約5cm。2段式。上段には2cmx18cmx10cmのスペース2つと指輪ホルダーがあります。
