    【清水公照(しみず・こうしょう)】
    明治44年〜平成11年(1911−99)
    兵庫県飾磨郡曽左村(現・姫路市)の東道家の六男に生まれる。俗名・睦治。
    昭和2年(1927)東大寺塔頭宝厳院の清水公俊のもとに入寺し、僧名・公照を授かる。昭和8年、龍谷大学文学部仏教学科を卒業、天龍寺の関精拙に参禅。
    昭和21年、宝厳院住職となり、翌年、青々中学校(東大寺学園中学校の前身)初代校長に就任。
    昭和50年、東大寺207世別当・華厳宗管長に就任、同53年、208世別当に再任、同60年、東大寺大仏殿昭和大修理完了の落慶大法要を挙行し、翌年、別当を退いて東大寺長老となる。
