    楠の白木から彫り上げられた、能面・般若です。一点一点が手彫りで丁寧に彫り上げられ、年月を重ねることで楠白木独特の色合いの変化も楽しんで頂けます。主に壁掛け、飾りとして、また皿立て・面立て等に立て掛けて置物としてご使用して頂けるお面です。紐の長さは壁掛け用の長さに調整してあります。紐を取り替えることで舞などに使用して頂く事も可能です。

    能の世界では、狂気をまとった恐ろしい女性を般若のお面を着けて演じられているようで、「道成寺」「葵上」「安達原」で般若の面が用いられています。
    余談ではありますが、能の般若の面は赤・白・黒とあり、赤が最も強い怒りを表し「道成寺」専用。
    白は一番表情が柔らかく上品で「葵上」専用。
    黒は下品で鬼婆としての強さを出した「安達原」専用なのだそうです。

    般若心経
    本来の意味から言えば、「智慧のお経」ということになりますが、般若心経で怨霊を退治したことから、鬼と言えば般若となったという説。
    源氏物語の中で、嫉妬や恨みのために生霊となった六条御息所が、祈祷によって退散する場面が描かれますが、この時の祈祷が般若心経だったと言われています。


    般若を飾る
    島根県の西部地方には、石見神楽という天下泰平、五穀豊穣、無病息災を祈念する神楽があります。
    地元では大変人気のある神事舞で、子供たちには「どんちっち」とも呼ばれ親しまれているそうです。
    今も地元に根付いている神楽があるからでしょうか、石見地方のお宅では、邪気を払うために般若の面を玄関に飾る風習があるそうで、新築祝い等で贈られることもあるそうです。
