    作家説明■緑川広太郎  
    明治37(1904)年3月18日、母親の療養先であった横浜市に生まれる。父、緑川南甫は東京柳橋で紺屋を営む染色家。柳橋で育ち、私立明治中学校を中退。
    大正9年より本郷洋画研究所に学ぶ。のち小島善太郎の門をたたき師事する。昭和8年第3回独立展に「風景」で初入選し、以後同展に出品を続ける。
    同15年第10回展に「黄土」を出品して独立賞を受け、同17年同会々友、同24年同会員となる。戦前は官展にも参加し、同18年第6回文展に「朝」を、
    翌年戦時特別展に「漁夫」を出品して二年連続特選となる。同38年日本国際美術展に招待出品。同41年第34回独立展に「祈る」「祈る人」を出品して
    児島賞を受ける。同44年から翌年にかけシルクロードを訪れ以降たびたび同地に取材してその風景を描き続けた。同52年紺綬褒賞を受けている。
    代表作には前期の受賞作のほか昭和30年代の「サーカス」「水門」、東京芸術大学資料館蔵「西城の月」、法政大学蔵「高砂族の人々」などシルクロード
    関係の作品がある。
