    ・作家略歴
    具体美術は日本の前衛芸術といえば「具体美術ともの派」とまでいわれるようになり、近年では世界的に再評価をうけています。
    具体美術の創立メンバーの一人である上前智祐は1920年京都に生まれる。1947年黒田重太郎に師事したのち、1952年吉原治良に師事し、1954年具体美術の結成に参加。一貫して非具象(抽象)を追及した作品を作り続け、おがくずやマッチを使用し何層にも重ねた非具象を旨とした作品は、平面のみならず立体的な作品から布や糸を使った縫い作品、シルクスクリーンや銅版画などにわたり、幅広い創作と真面目な手仕事の積み重ねから生み出される作品は、物質としての存在感のみで自立できる説明不要な素晴らしい作品でした。
    惜しまれつつも2018年4月16日に老衰のため死去（享年97歳）されました。具体美術の主要メンバーの一人として美術史の中に永遠に残る作家であると思います。
