    汕頭（スワトウ）の刺繍は、約160年前に中国広東省汕頭へやってきたヨーロッパの宣教師達が、自分達の刺繍技法を地元の婦女へ教えたことから始まりました。
    その後、地元の伝統的な刺繍（潮綉・粤綉）と融合して、東洋と西洋の美を両方兼ね備えた独自の作品が生み出されました。
    当時から欧米へも輸出されており「SWATOW」と呼ばれ、評価も高く大変人気があったそうです。

    近年は縫い手さんの減少、高齢化が著しいため、良い刺繍のものは大変貴重です。
    マスクに強度を持たせ、きちんと張りを持たせつつ、美しく仕上げようとすると、作業に大変手間がかかり、緊張を強いられます。

    お値段は高くなりますが、古き良き貴重な手仕事を愉しめる、またとないチャンスと思って頂けたら幸いです。
