    作家略歴

    犬養　毅いぬかい　つよし
    (１８５５～１９３２）
    　明治、大正、昭和にわたって活躍した政党政治家。木堂と号す。
    　現在の岡山市川入で、郷士（大庄屋）の二男として生まれた。
    慶応義塾在学中には、報知新聞記者として西南戦争に従軍した。
    　１８８２年(明治１５）の立憲改進党結成に参加し、東京府会議員をはじめ連続して代議士を務めた。　
    １８９８年（明治３１）文部大臣となり、１９１０年（明治４３）には、立憲国民党を創立した。　
    １９２２年（大正１１）には革新倶楽部を組織し、護憲運動の中心的政党政治家として活躍した。
    　第二次山本内閣および加藤内閣では、逓信大臣を務めた。
    　１９２９年（昭和４）政友会総裁に就任し、
    １９３１年（昭和６）には首相となり、政友会内閣を組織したが、翌年、５・１５事件で暗殺された。
