    イタリア四重奏団

    アナログ最盛期の優秀録音で聴く、歌と活力と対話に満ちたベートーヴェン像。
    イタリア弦楽四重奏団は1945年、シエナ音楽アカデミーで知り合った4人の弦楽器奏者により結成されました。結成の背景には、第2次大戦後のイタリアに新しい室内楽の黄金時代を再建しようとした作曲家マリピエロの強力な後押しがありました。ベートーヴェンの弦楽四重奏曲は、モーツァルトと並ぶ彼らの中心的なレパートリーで、結成当初からその理想的な演奏のため、長い間研鑽を積みました。フルトヴェングラー未亡人の述懐によると、若い頃の彼らはフルトヴェングラーが戦時中に録音した弦楽四重奏曲第13番のカヴァティーナ楽章(弦楽合奏版)の演奏を聴いて衝撃を受け、この作品の解釈をすっかり変えたこともあったそうです。1967年から75年にかけて録音されたこの全集は、自らの演奏体験や他の演奏団体からの影響なども含め、彼らのベートーヴェン解釈の総決算として録音されました。この録音はLP時代よりもCD時代になって評価が高まり、再発売を繰り返していますが、それはオーソドックスな演奏の中に滲み出る伝統の厚みや解釈の深みによるものでしょう。

    後期四重奏曲群も、ここでは明るくダイナミックに表現され、しぶさゆえに見過ごされがちだった作品本来の膨大な情報が刺激たっぷりに聴き手の耳に飛び込んでくるのが印象的。 
    逆に初期の作品では、きっちりとしたフォルムを強調するかのような、古典構造に対する隈取りの強さをみせ、平板に聴こえかねない作品群に、独特の明快な表情を与えていて飽くことがありません。
