    サルヴァトーレ・マルキ作「無原罪の御宿り」

    ★彡 ★彡 ★彡 ★彡 ★彡
    聖母マリアが清らかなまま母の胎内に宿ったとする「無原罪の御宿り」が1854年12月8日、教皇ピウス9世によりカトリックの正式な教義として宣言されたことを記念して彫刻家・サルヴァトーレ・マルキにより製作されたガラスドーム付きメダイヨンの出品となります。

    聖母マリアは薔薇の花輪を頭に巻き、蛇を踏みつけて球体の上に立っています。蛇は苦しげに口を開け、舌をだらりと垂らして喘いでいます。
    聖母が蛇を踏み付けているのは、聖母が悪魔の支配を受けず、罪をその身に帯びないということを表しています。

    足下の天使が持つ帯には、教義宣言された日付、1854年12月8日 (8, Decembre, 1854)と彫刻家サルヴァトーレ・マルキ (S. Marchi) の名前が刻まれています。
    左下には、インクによるサルヴァトーレ・マルキの署名 (Salvatore Marchi) があります。

    160年以上も前にフランスで製作されガラスドームに密閉されて、製作当時のままの状態で守られてきました。
    ガラスドーム内側に斑点、額にキズはありますが本体に割れ欠けは見当たらずコンディションは良好な状態が保たれております。

    一回り小さいサイズの作品もありますが、本品は大型のサイズになります。
