    明治6年11月24日生まれ。望月玉泉,幸野楳嶺(こうの-ばいれい),橋本雅邦にまなぶ。明治40年東京府勧業博覧会1等賞の「二日月」で注目をあび,四条派と狩野派を融和させた画境をひらく。文展審査員,東京美術学校(現東京芸大)教授をつとめる。帝国美術院会員。昭和15年文化勲章。昭和32年6月30日死去。83歳。愛知県出身。本名は芳三郎。別号に偶庵。
