    大乗仏教の仏。 太陽神に起源をもち,宇宙の根元とされ,あらゆる仏,菩薩(ぼさつ)の本地。 密教の本尊で,日本には平安時代前期,空海による密教導入にともない伝来。 大日経と金剛頂経の説く二つの種類があり,如来でありながら菩薩の形をとる。
