    オウィディウスの『変身物語』では「リュカイオスに咲いた花、テゲアーの乙女アタランテ」と歌われている。

    コルギスの金羊毛を求めてアルゴー船で航海をした英雄達の総称。

    アイトーリア地方のカリュドーン王オイネウスはその年の収穫を神々に捧げた際にアルテミスだけを失念した。
    そのためアルテミスの怒りを買い、アルテミスは災厄として巨大な猪を送り込み、カリュドーンを荒らした。
    この大猪を退治するためにアイトーリア地方をはじめギリシア全土から英雄たちが集まった。

    何人もが命を落とす中、アタランテは大猪の背中に矢を撃ちこむ活躍をし、アムピアラーオスが目を射抜き、最後にメレアグロスが脇腹を刺して倒した。

    アタランテの評判は高まり、多くの求婚者が現れることになったが、彼女は結婚を望んでいなかった。
    そこでアタランテは求婚者と競走の勝負をして、勝ったならば結婚をするが、負けたら殺すことを条件とした。
    そしてついにアタランテの従兄弟にあたるメラニオーンがアタランテに勝利し、結婚することになった。
