    チャペックの奇想天外なSF小説を原作としたユニークなオペラ。337歳のソプラノ歌手を演じるゼーダーシュトレームが、見事な歌唱を聴かせてくれる。マッケラスの指揮は的確で、この作品の代表的な録音となった。
     
    若い頃プラハに学び、ヤナーチェクのオペラがまだ一般的なレパートリーではない時から積極的にヤナーチェクの作品を取り上げた第一人者マッケラス。これは彼が1970年代後半から1980年代前半にかけてウィーン・フィルを指揮してデッカに集中的に録音したヤナーチェクのオペラの再発売。
     マッケラスのヤナーチェク・オペラ第２弾となった録音。作品は、老いを忘れた337歳の女性が主人公のSF小説を原作としたユニークなオペラ。作曲時70歳近かったヤナーチェクの音楽はこのオペラの主人公と同じように何と若々しく、瑞々しいことでしょう。（ユニバーサルミュージック）
