    デザインプロダクト好きならご存知のヴィトラ社から発売されたもの。

    今回紹介するお品物は、ミース・ファンデルローエが1991年にデザインしたMR 20 チェアのミニチュア版。

    1920年代半ば、鋼管は家具デザインに好まれる素材として前衛的なデザイナーの間で支持されました。

    現在、現代家具デザインの古典とみなされている鋼管の最も重要なデザインは、わずか数年の間に生み出されました。シュトゥットガルトでのヴァイセンホフ展示会の準備中に、オランダの建築家 マルト・スタムは新しいタイプの椅子、つまり後脚のない鋼管状の椅子を開発します。片持ちフレームの不安定性に対処するために、スタムは重要な角度で鋼管を補強し、それによって強力かつ剛性の高い構造を考案します。

    鋼管の弾性を最初に発見し、それを構造原理として利用したのはミース ファン デル ローエでした。スタムのアイデアに触発されて、ミースは 1927年にデザイン史上初のフレキシブルなカンチレバー椅子をデザインしました。

    このモデルは、それぞれ MR 20 と MR 10 という名前で肘掛け付きと肘掛けなしの両方で生産されます。1920 年代のスチール製の筒状家具は、巨大な家具や装飾的な装身具で満たされた、当時の従来の過重なブルジョワインテリアの拒否を表しています。

    管状スチール家具の透明性と構造の明瞭さは、建築とデザインにおける新しい理想、つまり自然光があふれる室内空間を体現しています。
