    本名　ジューリア・エリザベス・ウェルズ（Julia Elizabeth Wells）

    イギリスのサリー州ウォールトン・オン・テムズ(Walton-on-Thames)で生まれる。

    幼少より約4オクターヴという驚異的な声域を持っていた。

    アメリカに渡ったアンドリュースは、ミュージカル『ボーイ・フレンド』のポリー役でブロードウェイ・デビュー。

    ブロードウェイ史上に残る大ヒットとなった『マイ・フェア・レディ』のイライザ役や『キャメロット』のグウェナヴィア役で、ニューヨーク、ロンドンの舞台に立つ。

    『キャメロット』を見におとずれたウォルト・ディズニーからオファーを受け、1964年にミュージカル映画『メリー・ポピンズ』はディズニー史上、一番の興行成績をあげた。

    アンドリュースはこの映画で1964年のアカデミー主演女優賞、ゴールデングローブ賞 主演女優賞 (ミュージカル・コメディ部門)を受賞した

    更に翌年『サウンド・オブ・ミュージック』では主役のマリア役で世界レベルでのブレイクを果たす。
