    【被（き）せガラス】ガラス素地に異なった色のガラスを部分的あるいは全体にわたって被せかける技法。
    【酸化腐食彫り（エッチング）】アシッドともいわれ非常に多用される技法。模様部分の皮膜をパラフィンなど保護膜で覆った後模様を描き、それをフッ化水素と硫酸の混合液で腐食させて模様を作る。

    【エミールガレ】 1846年フランス東部のナンシーに生まれる。1８77年に父の会社を継承、ガラス器、陶器の製造販売を手掛ける。1８78年パリ万国博覧会に参加、陶器とガラス部門で銅賞を受賞。89年パリ万国博覧会でガラス部門でグランプリを受賞。1894年ナンシーにガラスの窯を設置、一貫生産を開始。1900年パリ万国博覧会に多数出品し絶賛される。アール・ヌーヴォー・ナンシー派の指導者としても活躍し手作りの良さを残した優美なガラス器の製造をした。
